Helps iron supplementation in:
Each film coated tablet contains: Iron as iron bisglycinate (15%) 27 mg, Folic Acid 0.5 mg, Zinc sulphate monohydrate 11 mg, Vitamin B12 1000 mcg, Vitamin B6 1.3 mg, Vitamin C 90 mg.
Iron is critical to a variety of physiologic processes, including respiration, energy production, and cell proliferation. About 65 to 80% of the body's iron is in the blood in the form of hemoglobin, a protein that transports oxygen to tissues in the body. In addition, iron is involved in reactions within the body that produce energy and any excess iron is stored in the body as a reserve.
Hemoglobin usually responds rapidly to effective oral iron therapy and increases of at least 2g/dL after three weeks of adequate therapy. However, repletion of iron stores and normalization of serum ferritin may require 4 to 6 months of treatment.
Folic Acid: The active forms of folic acid (dihydrofolate and tetrahydrofolate) are involved in a wide variety of biochemical reactions. A deficiency of folic acid impairs DNA synthesis and cell division; the common clinical manifestation of folic acid deficiency is megaloblastic anemia, which is hematologically similar to the anemia resulting from vitamin B12 deficiency.
Zinc: Zinc is critical to tissue growth, wound healing, immune system function, prostaglandin production, bone mineralization, proper thyroid function, blood clotting, cognitive functions, fetal growth and sperm production. Zinc may help in the treatment of pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) by regulating the secretion of many hormones and natural pain management. In pregnant women, the lack of zinc may lead to fetal brain cells decrease and affect their mental development, increases the risk of low birth weight and preterm delivery. A zinc deficiency in adult males, may lead to prostatic hyperplasia, reducing the reproductive function of the system and affect fertility.
Vitamin B12: Vitamin B12 has an important role in cellular metabolism, especially in DNA synthesis, methylation and mitochondrial metabolism. The pregnancy and lactation alter maternal B12 status in a manner that facilitates the transfer of B12 to the fetus and infant. B12 deficiency affects the nervous system, resulting in demyelination of peripheral and central neurons. The haematological effect of B12 deficiency is megaloblastic anaemia, which results from disruption of DNA synthesis.
Vitamin B6: Vitamin B6 is required for the synthesis of the neurotransmitters serotonin and norepinephrine and for myelin formation. It helps the body to build protein, make hormones, red blood cells, antibodies and a strong immune system.
Vitamin C: Vitamin C plays an important role in many physiological processes. It enhances iron absorption in the intestine by reducing ferric iron (Fe³⁺) to its more absorbable ferrous form (Fe²⁺). It also helps maintain iron in its usable form within the body and prevents its oxidation. Another important role of vitamin C include the formation of protein used to make skin, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels for healing wounds and forming scar tissue, for repairing and maintaining cartilage, bones, and teeth and aid in the absorption of iron. It facilitates iron absorption by forming a chelate with ferric iron at acid pH that remains soluble at the alkaline pH of the duodenum.

Iron, can decrease absorption of bisphosphonates and levothyroxine by forming insoluble complexes in the gastrointestinal tract. Unlike traditional iron salts, ferrous bisglycinate does not require high gastric acidity for absorption, as its chelated structure protects it from degradation in an alkaline environment. As a result, the effect of reduced stomach acidity on its absorption is significantly lower. However, to ensure optimal efficacy, it is still recommended not to take it simultaneously with antacids or proton pump inhibitors.
Ferrous bisglycinate may also form complexes with these antibiotics such as tetracyclines, quinolones or chloramphenicol, and reduce their absorption, although this is less likely compared to ferrous sulfate. It is still recommended to maintain at least a 2-hour interval between their administration.Take care on co-administration of penicillamine, ethambutol, antifolate agents, and anticonvulsant drugs which may get interfere with their effectiveness.
This product is not recommended for children under 12-years old as an acute iron poisoning is a serious risk in the paediatric population. If you have sensitivity to folic acid or iron, an undiagnosed anemia, any existing heart diseases, consult your healthcare professionals before administration of the product and also brief about all the medications you use.
This product can be used safely during pregnancy and breastfeeding. For more information, please consult your doctor or pharmacist.
