Lactol Tablets: Lactobacillus & Fructo Oligosaccharides Tablets Lactol Sachets: Bacillus coagulans and Fructo oligosaccharides Orodispersible Powder
Each film coated tablet contains: Bacillus coagulans 150 million spores, Fructo-oligosaccharides 100 mg
Lactol is a preparation containing viable spores of Bacillus coagulans in combination with fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS). This combination improves the survival of bacteria crossing the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract, thereby enhancing their effects in the large bowel. Pre and probiotics in suitable ratio provide maximum benefits to probiotic survival.
Being sporulated, they germinate under favorable conditions and produce sufficient viable cells which proliferate and perform vital healthful functions. Lactic acid- producing organisms were introduced as therapeutic agents with the idea of acidifying the intestinal contents and thus preventing the growth of putrefactive organisms. Live cultures designed to restore or maintain a healthy microbial flora have been referred to as probiotics. Lactobacillus bulgaricus, which occurs in naturally soured milk, was the organism originally used but it can be difficult to obtain growth of this organism in the intestines and L. acidophilus, which is an inhabitant of the human intestine, is preferred by many.
Preparations containing various lactobacillus spp. and other lactic acid producing organisms have been used in the treatment of vaginal and gastrointestinal disorders but evidence to support this use is limited. Other organisms that have been tried including Bifidobacterium bifidum and other Bifidobacterium spp., Enterococcus and Streptococcus spp., and the yeast Saccharomyces boulardii. Naturally, yogurt is a common source of lactic acid producing organisms.
One tablet twice or thrice daily or as directed by the physician. Swallow with the glass of water. Not to be chewed. Do not exceed the recommended intake.
Allergy to any of ingredient in Lactobacillus granules, sensitivity to milk or soy products.
Review and studies concerning the use of lactic acid producing organism including Lactobacillus spp., Bifidobacterium bifidum and Streptococcus thermophilus have been published. However, some preparations have been found to contain smaller quantities or different species of organism to those specified on the label. Metabolic acidosis has occurred after use of tablets containing Lactobacillus acidophilus. Cases of infection associated with the use of lactic acid producing organism seem to be rare.
Those who develop gastrointestinal symptoms with the use of dietary fiber should exercise caution in the use of Fructo-oligosaccharides.
Lactobacillus may cause gastrointestinal disturbances in patients taking medications that suppress the immune system like cyclosporine, tacrolimus, azathioprine and cancer chemotherapeutic agents.
Using lactobacillus during pregnancy and breast-feeding is possibly safe, however use caution when considering the use of lactobacillus in pregnancy & lactating women. Consult your health care provider before use.
