Cranberry extract: Proanthocyanidins in cranberry extract prevent the growth and adhesion of bacteria to the walls of the urinary tract. It also prevents the bacteria from forming clumps. As a result, unattached bacteria will be freely suspended in urine, which are then flushed out of the body. D-Mannose: D-Mannose is basically a simple sugar form that occurs naturally in wood, fruits, and the human body. Bacterial adherence to mucosa is considered to be an initial and important stage in the development of urinary tract infection. During bacterial colonization, the fimbrae binds to the receptors on the epithelium of the urinary tract. As D-Mannose is similar in structure to the binding site of urothelial glycoprotein receptors, it acts as a competitive inhibitor of bacterial adherence. Moreover, D-Mannose converted to mannitol and excreted, which leads to osmotic diuresis. Nettle leaf extract: The major constituents of the nettle leaf include organic acid (e.g., carbonic, formic, citric), amines and flavonoid compounds. The nettle leaf extract inhibits prostaglandin formation through the inhibition of proinflammatory pathways. Nettle extract also inhibits antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiulcer and analgesic properties.
